Barbeque and Blues
It was to be a short ride from Marion to Memphis. We took our morning coffee break at McDonald’s
As I walked back to the bikes, I noticed that one of the license plate screws on the trailer was missing. I tightened the remaining screw then searched for a hardware store nearby. There was one about a mile away, so we went there and got a screw, washer, and nut. It took only a few minutes to install the fix.
We ran into trouble just a few miles from our destination. All traffic on I-55 and I-40 has to cross one bridge into Memphis while the I-40 bridge is being repaired. We were in stop and go traffic for a very long time.
We managed to get off the highway and fix lunch in the shade of a Holiday Inn Express. Once we and the bikes cooled down, be got back into the traffic and made our way to the campground.
The campground at T. O. Fuller State Park was wooded and the sites were well-spaced, but the facilities needed updating and it was very close to a sewage treatment plant. The odor was pretty bad in the afternoon. Also, we did not have good internet reception on our phones. We managed to find a spot with good reception and get a Lyft ride to downtown Memphis.
We walked around Beale Street and decided on a restaurant.
The food was mediocre, but the blues band was excellent.
We actually had a really nice time. The beer and the band were great and made up for the over-cooked ribs.
We tried to use Lyft to get back to the campground, but ended up getting an Uber instead. The humidity was very high and we did not get a good night’s sleep.
