Cherokee to Spartanburg
Shark Week VII came to a close and riders started leaving early in the morning. Drew left for Williamsburg to visit his grandmother.
Beth and I discovered that this is the weekend the Motor Maids were going to meet in Chesnee, SC at an event honoring Betty Fauls as AMA’s “Legend of the Year.” Betty was a Motor Maid for nearly 70 years and passed away last Fall.
Beth decided to attend the event, so we booked a room and rode down to Spartanburg, which was only 100 miles away. We met other Motor Maids at the hotel. That’s Bob surrounded by Val, Kathy, Karrie, Beth, Tammy, and Christeena.
The group took an Uber up to Chesnee to have dinner at the Bantam Chef restaurant, a real, old-timey place where you order at the desk and pick it up for eat-in or carry-out. Several in our group had been there in 2012 for the Spartanburg Motor Maid convention.
The 14th annual “Antique Bikes on Main” is this weekend. The carnival was in full swing, so we walked over from the restaurant to take a look.
Uber didn’t respond to our request for a ride back to the hotel. Fortunately one of the girls has a friend in Chesnee; she picked us up and gave us a ride back.
Flowers
Tomorrow we will ride up to Chesnee. The Motor Maids will ride in the parade and attend the presentation honoring Betty Fauls.
