Chill and Fix
We decided to stay another day at the Cathedral Gorge campground so we could just chill, catch up on the blog, and fix an electrical problem on my bike.
It was cool this morning – 56 degrees, so we donned jackets. By mid afternoon it was 100 degrees.
The auxiliary circuit I set up to power the GPS, phone charger and aux lights worked intermittently yesterday afternoon. Before lunch I took off the fairing and looked for a loose connection.
I spent a couple of hours trying to find the source of the problem. For awhile I thought it was a bad relay that provides aux power. I even ran a separate feed from the battery to the fairing. As I was hooking up this separate feed I jostled some wires and the power came back on. As is almost always the case with intermittent electrical problems, I found the source by accident. It was a loose connector.
Before I could get things put back together, it started to rain. The rain was really just a series of short drizzles. I covered the bike and took a nap while waiting for the rain to pass by.
After my nap I put everything back together and it all works fine now.
Following dinner we had tea and watched a beautiful sunset. (And put jackets back on.)
We took a lot of pictures, so here they are for you to enjoy.
And looking down on the gorge from Miller’s Point
So amazing! Thanks for a glimpse of places I will likely never see in person!
Them electrical bugs are funny that way
Thanks for sharing your blog and pictures. Enjoying your trip through FB and blogs.
Thanks for following along with us.
The variation in temperature is amazing.
It sure is. We go from jackets to shirts and back.
Really enjoying your posts Tim, how’s the Coronavirus affecting life on 2 wheels over there ?
So many people are fully vaccinated we are getting back to normal. We can’t go to Canada, however.
I love these pictures. I hiked in a slot canyon near Palm Springs (the canyon is actually part of the San Andreas fault, which was fascinating), and not too far from Joshua Tree. Not sure if you’ll get this post, but it’s worth trying. I sent one earlier, but it didn’t show up, so I’m doubtful this one will either. Thanks for sharing your trip.
I have to approve comments before they show up. Once I approve the first one, later comments will appear right away. Thanks for following our trip.
