Clutch and Canyons
It was drizzling when we got up. The rain didn’t bother the cows in the pasture or the duck and her ducklings who passed by. We didn’t bother to get the camera wet to capture those scenes.
The tent was damp when we packed up, but that didn’t matter because we knew it would dry out quickly when we set it up again.
Our first destination for the day was Zion Harley in St. George, UT. I wanted to have Beth’s clutch actuator fluid checked. The clutch hasn’t been engaging until the handle is almost all the way out.
We stopped for gas along the way.
There is an interesting incident that happened just a few minutes after I snapped this picture. You see the ice chest in front of the store? A very large box truck arrived to fill the ice chest. He positioned himself so he could back up as close as possible to the overhang. One car moved out of the way while another moved directly behind the truck. The driver couldn’t see the car behind him in either mirror as he started to back up. I quickly stopped him to explain there was a car behind him. It took him a moment to understand what I had said. He was dumbfounded. I explained to the lady in the car that the driver wanted to back up. Her response was, “OK. Now I get it.” I think she never realized how close she came to getting smashed.
We got to Zion Harley without any interesting incidents. They took Beth’s bike in right away and flushed the hydraulic fluid. Beth says the clutch is working much better.
While we waited I took a walk to the front of the building and discovered they have a Vietnam Veterans memorial.
Our next stop was Cathedral Gorge State Park in eastern Nevada. Sites in the campground are available on a first-come, first-served basis. We found plenty of sites available, so we picked one before exploring the slot canyons.
The slot canyons are very interesting and fun to explore.
I was here in 2013 during Shark Week III. The area we explored then now has a picnic area with water and restrooms.
I was able to find the rock with a window in it and recreate the photo from 2013.
The facilities here are great. The sites are well-spaced. The bath house has very clean showers and rest rooms. Each site has 50 amp electric service. There are few common-use water spigots. The most appealing thing is how peaceful and quiet it is.
We went to a p for some groceries.
On the way back we stopped at Miller’s Point, which is above the gorge. It’s interesting to see the site from a different perspective.
As you can see, it’s possible to go down the steps and hike to the bottom of the gorge where we explored the slot canyons. We didn’t try to do that.
We have a couple of extra days in our schedule, so we’ve decided to stay here another day and just chill. I can catch up on the blog and fix an electrical problem on my bike. The power to my GPS and auxiliary lights is out.
I have my mechanic flush my breaks every two years. He has the tool to activate the ABS module
We have to do brakes and clutch more often in Florida. High humidity, I guess. The clutch was flushed a month ago. It needed to be done again.
