Continuing to Marion, IL
We had a two-day visit with my brother, Steve, and his wife, Sue Anne, in New Lenox, IL, just east of Joliet. We were able to park the bikes and trailer in their garage. Monday evening we ate dinner at a local Italian place. Tuesday, Beth went with Sue Anne to morning water aerobics and then to her friends’ house for lunch. I went to WalMart to get a new computer mouse. Later Sue Anne made a great salmon dinner, and we followed that up with a game of Dominoes. I had forgotten how much fun that was; we’ll have to dig out our set when we get home and arrange some games with friends.
I saw lightning and heard thunder at 4 a.m. today, but the shower passed over well-before we left New Lenox at 8 a.m.
We ran into a construction detour and had to be careful of the damp pavement. At one intersection the ABS kicked in as I stopped on top of a painted cross-walk. I fish-tailed a little on start up as well. Both events were startling, but not serious.
Our morning coffee break was at McDonald’s…
…followed by grocery shopping at Walmart.
The rest stop picnic area was one of the best we’ve been to, with lots of tables in the shade and back from the highway.
Our campsite is in an RV park. They put us in a site just about as far from the bath house as possible. Right now we are doing laundry and enjoying the air conditioning. It’s in the low 90s outside.
Beth is fixing pasta with hamburger and mushrooms for dinner.
It’s remained humid through dinner, so we may have to take a second shower before bedtime. Tomorrow we head for Memphis where we hope to enjoy some evening brews, blues & BBQs.
If you are on I-57 you went by my hometown of Salem, IL. Mile marker 116. It is where I was raised and graduated high school. The home of William Jennings Bryan. U. S. Secretary of State, 1913-1915. He also ran for U. S. President 3 times. I retired in Mt. Vernon, IL 32+ years at Continental Tire North America.
Yes, we rode by there.
