Cooler Ride Through The Mountains.
It was 51 degrees when we woke up. That was quite a change from the high temps the day before. We had breakfast, then packed up. Packing took and hour and forty-five minutes! I think the cooler weather slowed us down.
Rode to Creed where we got gas, then we continued north on CO 149 through some beautiful mountains.
We stopped for a coffee break in Lake City and decided to have lunch in the city park.
At the park we had a nice conversation with a pastor from Fort Worth. He and his wife have vacationed there for many years. The day before they went on a Razr tour over the mountain to Silverton. Such tours are very popular. The said they saw about 200 vehicles on the trail that day.
In the tree above us we noticed some humorous art.
Because of the construction on US 50 west of Gunnison, we rode CO 92 on the north side of the Black Canyon to Grand Jct. We stopped at one overlook and took a picture of Morrow Point Reservoir.
We later learned that much of the haze was smoke from fires in Utah.
We set up camp quickly then went to spend the evening with Susan, a friend from our days in Glenside, PA. Susan’s husband, Peter, was Best Man in our wedding. Unfortunately Peter passed away 5 years ago. It has been eight years since we last visited and as it is with close friends, we picked up the conversation as though it had been only a week since we were together.
Here in Ohio we have been getting a little bit cooler days than the rest of the country
Ahhh the mountains. Makes me miss the NW. Nice that it’s cooler for you!
