Finish of My 2018 Spring Ride
The finish to my Spring Ride begins today. I have 1150 miles to cover in two days. I got an early start; I was on the road by 6 this morning. It took me about two hours to cover the 80 miles of the Pig Trail. Parts of the trail have been repaired and resurfaced, but there are still major stretches that need to be fixed.
I ate breakfast before getting on I-40.
And stopped at McDonald’s for lunch.
I discovered a few 4-lane divided highways, Today. US-65 in eastern Arkansas and US-49W and US-49 in Mississippi are lightly traveled and in good shape. I was able to make good time on them as well as on US-84.
The temperature was 49 degrees on the Pig Trail and 88 degrees all afternoon. I had to shed a lot of layers to get comfortable.
I’m staying in Laurel, MS and had dinner at Shoney’s across the street. (Yes, I crossed the street without incident.)
I’ll make the final 600 miles to home tomorrow.
My last day on the road I covered the 600 miles in 11-1/2 hours. I lost a half hour in Crystal River, FL due to an accident, but the rest of the trip was uneventful. The temperature was 55 to begin and quickly moved to the upper 80s. The high for the day was 91.
The bike is resting in the garage after 5308 fun-filled miles. What will the next adventure be? Besides a few day rides, it will probably be the Motor Maids convention in Montgomery, AL in July.
