Nice Roads, Dull Skills
Sunday, July 3, 2011 – Columbus, IN. This evening we are staying with members of the Motorcycle Travel Network at their log cabin deep in the woods. It’s a really nice setting. Pictures will follow.
We got up a little later this morning and got the bikes loaded before fixing some breakfast. We got on the road at 8:00 a.m. The ride up to Chattanooga was more of I-75 and traffic. South of Chattanooga we left the interstate and took nice back roads north. The first part of the route was on a 4-lane divided highway. The farther north we went the narrower the roads became. The first curves revealed how living in flat Florida dulls one’s corner carving skills. Later in the day we found doing the curves much easier.
We stopped for lunch at Anne’s Restaurant in Summer Shade, KY. The food was good and home style. It was a nice break from the usual. Tim had a burger (made from scratch) & Beth chose the BLT. The tomato was “real” and tasty!
The restaurant only served Royal Crown Cola products. RC “Coke” is still alive in some parts of the South.
The red roads took us to I-65 south of Louisville. The ride to Columbus was just more Interstate traffic and very warm weather.
Out hosts’ cabin is at the end of a 1/4 mile winding, gravel drive that begins where the road turns from blacktop to gravel. We don’t have much experience riding on gravel, but we made it just fine.
The driveway at right.
Bikes parked for the night.
