Road Run Revised, or “Dewey Wins”
Thursday, July 7, 2011 – Grand Rapids, MI. At the conclusion of the Dot Robinson road run yesterday, a number of participants who drew the first time slots raised objections to location of the final checkpoint and end of the race. They had missed the final check because when they returned to the hotel, they re-entered at the first parking lot entrance (which had been the start location) and not the second, where the checkers were positioned. This was not noted on the instructions. After seeing the confusion, the organizers stationed a person at the first entrance to direct the remaining 65+ participants to the correct location. The organizers agreed to throw out the scores of the final checkpoint. As a result, Beth dropped from first to 4th. Bummer. The good news was that her good friend Cathy Decker from Pennsylvania won the A class with 999 points + 7 seconds.
Beth spent the morning in the business meeting. Afterward we had lunch at a sandwich shop, then went and did some laundry.
At the laundromat.
The evening’s activity was the banquet.
Beth stayed for the speeches and the awards. The guys found other, more interesting things to do.
Late note. There is a report of a sniper, who has killed 7 people in Grand Rapids. The location is a few miles from here, so everyone at the convention is out of harms way.
