48th State
After Beth’s morning meeting, we rode up to Washington so Beth could claim the 48th state she has been in. The areas we passed through were vastly different. Heading north we passed through the high desert. We turned to the northwest and entered an area of mesas and rolling valleys. As we descended in elevation we rode through a forest with giant pine trees.
We skirted Mt. Hood as we approached Hood River, OR. After lunch we crossed the Columbia river and followed it for about 20 miles. We stopped at a rest area to take pictures.
We crossed back over the Columbia at The Dalles, OR. The view ahead of us we a stark contrast to everything we’d seen earlier. There were no trees and the rolling hills were covered in a patchwork of brown or gold – areas where the wheat had been mowed or was waiting to be mowed.
The farm land turned to high desert as we made our way south and back to the hotel. We had dinner with friends at a nearby restaurant.
Tomorrow is the Dot Robinson Road Rally.
Congratulations on your 48th state! 🙂
