Lake Tahoe
Last evening we had dinner with our son, Ross, his girlfriend, Michelle, and our hosts, Joe and Margaret. I took a vacation from the blog, so I’m catching up this morning. I added a few pictures to yesterday’s post.
Yesterday we were up early, as usual, and headed for Lake Tahoe. Our friends, Bob and Sheila recommended this ride and we’re glad they did. We rode a loop around the lake, stopping occasionally at overlooks to take pictures. The lake water is very clear and appears deep blue in color as it reflects the sky.
These are views from a public beach.
Most of the overlooks are well-above the lake and provide spectacular views.
There are many homes, hotels, and campgrounds around the lake. We passed numerous hiking and biking trails. It’s easy to see why it is a popular vacation destination. Beth said, “If I we win the Power Ball, I could see buying a place here.”
One thing I didn’t take a picture of was the weekend traffic. On the way into Tahoe City we got caught in 2-1/2 miles of bumper-to-bumper traffic. The air-cooled Harley motors do not like to go slowly and throw off a lot of heat in protest. When we finally got into town we parked the bikes and went to lunch.
As you can see from the picture, boating is very popular on the lake. We noticed several boat inspection stations. Apparently inspections are one of many things they are doing to combat pollutants that reduce the clarity of the water. Algae growth and very fine sediments suspended in the water contribute to the loss of clarity.
In the evening we had a delightful time at dinner with family and friends. We sat outside at the restaurant. The temperature was in the high 70s and the humidity was very low, which enhanced the pleasure of the evening. Oh yes, and the food was excellent.
Next up – a concert this afternoon by the Tesla Quartet. They will be playing in Incline Village at the lake as part of the Tahoe Chamber Music Society’s summer music series.
