Back to Florida
We took two days to return to Florida via I-10. It was hot and humid, and we didn’t have any rain or clouds to provide a little relief. Wet vests don’t work very well in humid weather, so we just forged ahead.
We ran into a bit of a delay. There was an accident on I-10 In Louisiana that had both sides of the highway blocked for 10 miles. We tried getting off and going around, but got lost. We followed a levee for several miles. We stopped to figure out how to get back to the highway. Some bikers stopped and helped us with directions. We had to go back a few miles, then head up and over the levee on a dirt road. The we crossed a canal on a rickety, one-lane bridge. Finally we found an entrance ramp to I-10 and continued east.
We stopped for the night in Crestview, FL in the panhandle. We had dinner at a Denny’s or something like that across the street from the hotel.
The next day we finished the trip by our usual route. As always we ran into some rain on US-19. We were glad to get home and out of our sweaty clothes. This was a relatively short trip for us. We just went out and back and did a minimum of touring along the way. Still, we had a great time and I look forward to returning next year for the Road Glide meetup in Kerrville.
