Saturday we left our airbnb and went to downtown Mt. Airy to look for things related to “The Andy Griffith Show.”

We talked to a couple of local gentlemen, who pointed out where things are. Such as Floyd’s Barber Shop

and Barney’s Café.

A few blocks away is the Andy Griffith Playhouse.

The statue of Andy and Opie going fishing is next to the Playhouse..

After taking our pictures we headed for the highway and Atlanta. A couple of hours into the trip it got hot. It was clear we were finally back in the southern heat and humidity.

We stayed with a friend in Newnan, Ga. He showed us around the area.

We visited a new community created by wealthy Atlantans – Serenbe. We also stopped at a barn, which is part of Dunaway Gardens. Famous actors of the 30’s and 40s stayed at homes on the estate and presented plays at a theatre on the site. Today the horses and barn are used for programs for children with disabilities.
