2016 Convention Day 3
Thursday morning at the convention is the business meeting. It’s at this meeting that the location of the convention two years hence is voted on by the membership. This year they selected Montgomery, AL as the site for the 2018 convention.
While Beth was in the meeting, I rode her bike to Thunder Harley in Albuquerque to have the rear brake light switch repaired. While I was waiting I took a couple of pictures of Road Glides that were on the floor and posted them on Facebook. It seems the purple one was particularly popular in the RG Friends group. I also took a picture of Libby, who comes into the dealership regularly. She was abandoned by her owners after she had puppies. She had a chip, but the owners said they didn’t want her when they were called. So the man, whose legs you see in the picture, adopted her and said she’s the sweetest dog you’d ever want.
Mid-afternoon they gathered all the women for a group picture outside the host hotel. They actually had to do it twice, because they took the first set of shots well before the scheduled time.
The final event of the convention is the banquet, Thursday evening. This is where all the awards are given out. Awards are given out for various miles-ridden categories, top finishers in the Dot Robinson Road Rally, and service awards. Beth received her 10-year Life membership award. Three women received the Golden Life (50 years) award, and two received a Platinum Life (70 years) award. All the service awards are for continuous membership without a break and attendance at a number of conventions.
Tomorrow Beth and a few friends head back to Florida and I head north for the next part of my adventure.
Congrats to Beth on ten years!! Enjoy your trips. We’ll keep an eye on Beth while you’re gone – HA!
