Van Horn to Silver City
Happy 4th of July! We had an easy time of it today; we had only 275 miles to cover. The temperature was cooler in the morning and rose steadily to the low 90s by noon time.
Our morning coffee break was in El Paso.
This McDonald’s was the second one we encountered on this trip that requires customers to use the digital ordering stations. These stations are so slow to use. It takes forever to answer allĀ the questions just to get a cup of coffee.
We did have a parking lot conversation with a guy who wanted to check out our bikes. He has a 1997 H-D Heritage Softail. He said all his friends have newer bikes and his bike has a hard time keeping up with the new ones. Of course his bike is plenty fast – he just wants a new one. I’m sure this conversation makes sense to the Harley owners reading this. (No picture. It didn’t seem appropriate.)
Our lunch stop was a rest area halfway between Deming, NM and Silver City, NM. The picnic tables were sheltered, the grounds were perfectly groomed, and there were nice bathrooms. There was a sign warning visitors to watch out for snakes, but we didn’t see any.
A few of the bushes were decorated with spray paint.
We arrived at our friends’ home early afternoon. We’ve settled in and plan to spend the day with them tomorrow. This evening we went for a beer and dinner at the “Toad.” The craft beers were quite good. Be sure to stop here for a meal if your travels bring you to Silver City.
Tomorrow we rest.
Here is yesterday’s vlog:
