We woke up this morning to clear skies and warm temperatures. After breakfast at the hotel we got back on the highway with Dutch Maid Bakery in Tracy City, Tenn., as our first stop.

We saw a segment on a travel show about the bakery and discovered it was just a few miles off our intended route. The bakery opens at 11 a.m. so we timed our departure to arrive about that time. What we didn’t take into account was the time change, which meant we were an hour early. While waiting for the shop to open we explored the static displays outside the history center across the street.

Fortunately the ladies arrived shortly after we arrived and invited us in. The bakery has been in operation for more than 100 years and has an old-timey atmosphere.

We had coffee and ordered lunch.

The rest of the day we rode through the 90+ degree heat to Paducah, Ky. Along the way we saw signs for the historic downtown district in Paducah, so we decided to check it out after unloading our stuff at the hotel.

The downtown district is in the process of being revitalized, but very few shops were open on this Sunday afternoon. We did find a distillery open. We weren’t in the mood for the various kinds of moonshine they make, but we did have some good craft beer.

Once we were thoroughly refreshed we rode down to the riverbank and arrived just in time to see the Queen of the Mississippi departing.

There was a group of residents, dressed in red, assembled to wave goodbye to the passengers.

There is a steam train on display next to the quay, so I had to stop and take some pictures of the 2-8-2 Mikado.

Tomorrow we will arrive in East Peoria and Beth will check in to the convention.
