On the Road
My friend, Bob, and I set out on a new adventure early this morning. We are on our way to Washington, DC and “Rolling Thunder Ride for Freedom 2017,” a demonstration to draw attention to MIA/POW issues. This is the 30th anniversary of the first Rolling Thunder.
After the obligatory photo we got started a little after 6 a.m.
As I’ve said before, travel days are not very photogenic. We just stick to the saddle and cover the miles. Here’s a selfie at a gas stop in South Carolina and the image above is on the side of that gas station.
We’re in Florence, SC. We walked to Shoney’s for dinner. The place was packed as they were featuring an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet. The clerk at the register noticed my Navy credit card and gave me the veterans’ discount!
For those who followed my last trip to the West, you know I didn’t publish a final day’s account. It was a long day – 630 miles – and in Florida it was hot – 96 degrees. There was an accident on the Interstate somewhere in Louisiana that closed a lane in each direction. It took quite a long time to get past the trouble. The rest of the day I spent staying alert and trying to stay cool.
Finally, here are some pictures of flowers outside Shoney’s:
Tomorrow we have to ride just 400 miles to our destination.
Have a safe ride.
Thanks. We’re observing as many safety measures as we can remember.
Have a great trip. Looking forward to the reports.
Thanks. We’re having a great time.
