Second Day on The Cassiar
Wednesday, 8/9 – Iskut, BC to Kitwanga, BC
After several days of get up and go, we decided to sleep in and start later. We slept until 8 a.m.! and got started about 10 a.m.
The highway runs through valleys of the mountain range. We stopped to take a picture of the mountains. These photos are typical of what we saw today.
We rode 95 miles to our gas stop at Bell 2 Lodge.
It’s a fancy place.
The helicopters operating next door were ferrying supplies to mining camps. In the winter the helicopters are used for helicopter skiing.
We stopped for lunch at Meziadin Junction. I stayed at the modular motel in 2016.
Beth was able to purchase some half-and-half in a pushopen carton. She wishes dairies would stop packaging milk products with plastic pour spouts.
We rode the rest of the way to our campground in Kitwanga, BC. We rode in and out of showers and got behind a slow log truck. The lumber mill is just across the road from the campground. We could hear the mill operating throughout the night, but the sounds weren’t objectionable.
The campground is nice, with clean bathrooms. There is cell service in the area and the campground has Wi-Fi. After three days of no-cell-service we were able to catch up on email, talk with family, and work on the blog.
Beth and I have decided to ride to Prince Rupert on the west coast of BC. We plan to go to Williamsburg to see family there, so we are dubbing the second half of this trip, “From Pacific to Atlantic.”
Mike and Lynne will continue tomorrow to make their way down to Seattle to see their grand kids.
Love, love being a part of your journey….my get up n go got up n went many years ago so it is wounderful traveling with you…stay safe. So much more pleasurable than last years attempt!!! You two don’t give up and that great..
I’m glad you are following along. Thank you.
