Top of the Icefields Parkway
Sunday, 8/13 – Tete Jaune Cache to Saskatchewan River Crossing
We woke up to the coldest temperature we’ve had so far – 47F. The heater made getting ready tolerable.
One of our camper neighbors pointed out two bear cubs in a tree near our site. Both cubs were sleeping. The upper arrow points to a black cub and the lower arrow points to a brown cub.
Our route today took us to Jasper, AB, and the northern half of the Icefields Parkway. On the way to Jasper, we stopped to take pictures of Mt. Robson.
We walked a couple blocks of Jasper’s commercial strip, had coffee at the bakery cafe, and explored the train station.
The domed observation car is my favorite rail car.
Just a few of the sights on Jasper’s streets.
Having satisfied our curiosity about Jasper, we headed for the Icefields Parkway. It was getting hot (what a change), so we removed a layer of outer garments.
We took lots of pictures, but this is one of those places you have to visit for yourself. Our pictures and narration can’t do the vistas justice. There are high mountains with glaciers on top, rivers, and waterfalls.
In the late afternoon we decided to check out The Crossing. There room rates were very high, but they do let RVs parking in the bus lot overnight. So tonight, we are boondocking.
