Williamsburg Here We Come
We got a decent start on our trip to Williamsburg this morning. We rolled through the gate at 8:08 a.m. That’s much better than the 10:30 start we had last week on our shakedown cruise. Our intended destination today is Statesboro, GA.
We stopped for gas and a coffee in Old Town, FL. The trikes performed just fine. We’ve been up and down that stretch of US-19 so many times that it seemed a bit boring. We left US-19 and headed north toward Georgia. We stopped in Jasper, FL, for our usual picnic lunch. The Chamber of Commerce maintains a very nice park.
The state and US highways often have strips or patches of wildflowers along the sides of the road, which are pretty and help to sustain the bees. It’s too bad we couldn’t get pictures of that while we were rolling. We encountered just a tiny bit of rain a couple of times in the afternoon. There were a lot of dark, black clouds around us, but we managed to avoid the worst of them.
We bought a chicken Caesar salad at Publix, then checked into our hotel for a much-needed shower and a delicious salad-and-beer dinner.
Tomorrow we head for North Carolina and plan to stay with a Bunk-a-Biker host.
Last week I mentioned that we had lunch in a park in Gulf Hammock. We have seen a few town names that include the word, “Hammock.” I looked it up and learned a hammock is an elevated area of land surrounded by water and covered with hardwood trees. After reading that, it made sense that a lumber company had been established in Gulf Hammock.
There is something else I forgot to include in last week’s post. Along the way there was a backup in the opposite lanes. When we got close, we saw the cause of the delay. There was a burned-out, medium-sized, Class-A RV on the side of the road. The center wall on the street side of the RV was completely gone. We wondered if there had been a propane leak. We hope everyone is OK.

Glad to see both of you on 3 wheels. It was painful watching you pull that big trailer with the HD two wheeler.
I have company so I am playing catch up to your blog for this trip. Sounds like a nice trip so far. I hope you are loving the trikes.
The trikes are great. Thanks for catching up.
