We Made It to the Start of the Alcan
Saturday, 7/22 – Valleyview to Dawson Creek
The days are beginning to blur one into the next, so I’m taking notes on my phone throughout the day with the hope that I’ve captured enough to jog my memory as I write this.
The rain started just as I was finishing the blog last evening. We stashed everything in the tent as quickly as we could. It was cool and sunny this morning. The picnic tables are plastic, so Beth had to improvise the kitchen.
Fortunately, it warmed up as we rode. We stopped for coffee and brunch at a truck stop restaurant in Clairmont, AB.
Mike and Lynne had an order of Perogy Poutine. That’s gravy and cheese curds over fries and then add stuff.
We crossed from Alberta into BC and changed to the Pacific time zone. We rolled into Dawson Creek and took pictures at the sign.
I left a sticker to commemorate our visit.
And Beth found a Motor Maids sticker.
We bought some beer at the Safeway Liquor store.
And we did grocery shopping at Walmart.
We setup our camper at the Mile 0 Campground.
Adjacent to the campground is the Dawson Creek Pioneer Village. They have moved or reconstructed significant old buildings to the site. One thing I found remarkable is that we could walk through the old homes. Typically there is a fence at the doorway of each room. There were very few of those fences at this museum. There were also almost no “Do Not Touch,” signs.
I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.
It started to rain while we were at the village, so I ran back to the tent and zipped up the windows. We weren’t wearing rain gear, so Beth ran a small load of laundry and dried our wet clothes. After the rain stopped Beth warmed up a quick dinner.
Ride safe and enjoy the trip.
Will do.
