Hurry Up and Wait
Tuesday, 8/22 – Bismarck, ND to Webster, MN
Today we experienced an extreme contrast in weather. For the first 150 miles we rode through fog and mist at 64F. The sky cleared as we approached Fargo, ND and by mid-afternoon the temperature on my bike was 100F.
We were able to get packed up during a break in the drizzle.
Notice how foggy it is; you can hardly see the towers across the street.
We had lunch on the go at a truck stop.
We arrived at our friends’ home late afternoon and settled into the cool comfort of air conditioning.
Wednesday, 8/23 – Webster, MN
We dropped off the Goldwing at Roadsmith Trikes to have the steering head bearings replaced, the differential seals replaced, and the fuel transfer pump fixed or replaced. Doug, the owner, was vague about when the repairs would be completed, but he thought it wouldn’t take long. He said he’d call me and let me know when it would be ready.
On the way back from Roadsmith we made a Trader Joe’s run for chocolate, wine, and groceries.
We spent the rest of the day just hangin’ out.
Thursday, 8/24 – Webster, MN
Doug didn’t call, so I tried several times to talk to someone at Roadsmith. Late in the afternoon I got through to someone and learned the trike should be done tomorrow as they will be leaving town for a bike show on Monday.
We went to the movie theatre and saw “Oppenheimer” and enjoyed it very much. Beth was particularly interested in seeing it because she read the book, “American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J Robert Oppenheimer,” upon which the movie was based and because Oppenheimer’s mistress, Jean Tatlock, may be a distant cousin. (Beth’s maiden name is Tatlock.)
Fingers crossed the Goldwing repairs are done on time for you. Those temp changes in SD are legendary! I experienced a similar day in 2002 during my return ride from Sturgis. Safe travels and thanks for the road stories!
The Goldwing is at the factory, so it should be OK. They said yesterday the differential had been fixed. Thanks for following us.
Thank you for book recommendation. I have downloaded Kindle for my next trip. Safe travels
Enjoy your next trip.
