Sign Post Forest
Tuesday, 7/25 – Liard Hotsprings, BC to Teslin, YT
It was sunny and cool as we packed up in the morning. Fortunately we had no rain overnight.
We had a very chilly ride the first hour. At one point the temperature dropped to 50 F. We stopped at a sign to see what it was all about. This was the “Golden Spike” point where two major sections came together to complete the Alcan in November, 1942.
It was sunny and warm at the Sign Post Forest. People bring signs from their hometowns and hang them on posts here. There are hundreds of posts and trees filled with signs.
Lynne and Mike posted a license plate that was their son, Brian’s.
We took lots of pictures of signs. Here are a few that have some significance to us.
We had lunch across the street at Tags, which has gas, a grocery store, and a restaurant. I ate lunch there in 2016.
Beth did a little grocery shopping at Tags.
We had a photo stop with an unusual, flat-topped mountain and an interesting meadow in the middle of the valley.
We camped at Yukon Motel and RV Park. This is the same place I camped twice in 2016.
Beth posted her observations about this and similar lodging spots along the highway.
Along the Alaska Highway there are vast swaths of nothing but hills and forests. When you get to an occasional town or outpost, there is generally a lodge that could include a small restaurant, gas & diesel, an RV park, small provision store, laundry, a few guest rooms and/or cottages, and sometimes space for truckers to park. Our lodgings for this evening at the Yukon Motel include ALL of these. It’s 9 pm, and the sun is only now getting low in the sky. I’ve done laundry, showered, and finished dinner chores, so maybe it’s time for some shut-eye.

I was born in the next town over from Mt Eaton,Ohio. Small world!
If you search long enough you’ll find signs of a lot of places you have been.
