Museum and Riding the Highway
Wednesday, 7/26 – Teslin, YT to Haines Jct., YT
We left our campsite and headed up the road to the Teslin Tlinget Heritage Center in Teslin, YT, to see the indigenous cultural collection. They do not permit photos of the collection, so we were only able to get pictures of the totems, a boat and the building exterior. The 15-minute video talked about the importance of preserving culture and actively involving community members of all ages in participating in annual festivals and learning and preserving the various skills and way of life handed down from previous generations. There was a beautiful collection of handmade graduation regalia on display from high schoolers representing various groups in the region. It is a travelling display, and this museum was its final installation before the pieces go back to their owners. I cannot adequately describe the fine beadwork and leather decoration.

Photo stop.
We got gas in Whitehorse and then went to Rotary Peace Park for lunch.
This evening our basic campsite is behind a restaurant and hotel.
A candid shot of me unloading the camper.
Mike washed the RV.
We had cocktail time before dinner.
There’s quite a bit of haze over the mountains.
Out and about this evening in the town of Haines Jct., YT. This is the junction of the Alaska Highway and the Haines Road. The town has a large recreation complex behind our RV site, which probably gets more use in the fall, winter and spring with hockey, curling and skating. There is a large field with a playground at the far side.

Wow, Great pics, not that far from Alaska now! Suspect no Walmart’s up there! Lol Will be fun to hear of all you saw and did when you get back. Keith & Darlene
There are a couple of Walmarts in Anchorage.
I’m a little behind and just now getting to these. Did they say why the exhibits inside could not be photographed?
They did not. We assume it’s so you’ll come and visit and not just experience it on the internet.
