The Richardson Highway
Friday, 7/28 – Tok, AK to Glacier View, AK
We had a chilly start to the day, so we put on the appropriate layers for the temperature, which was about 60F.
Our first was lunch. We drove around looking for coffee shop. We stopped at a restaurant that wasn’t open yet, so we went a half-mile up the road to a drive-through coffee shop. They were very slow, so we went back to the first restaurant, which, by now was open and ordered lunch. Sandwiches were $18.00 a piece. They had car hops, so we added a tip, of course.
After lunch we headed south on the Richardson Highway. The views of the mountains were spectacular, but it was a bit too overcast to see them clearly.
For our afternoon coffee break we had to make coffee in the RV. The restaurant we stopped at had a bus load of people for lunch and they had only 50 seats, so they couldn’t accommodate us.
We encountered a pilot car construction zone. They flag person directed the motorcycles to go up to the head of the line. It’s then I knew it was going to be a pretty rough zone. I experienced a couple of those zones in 2016 and whenever they had the motorcycles go first, we rode through a muddy mess. Today was no different. Of course, I wasn’t able to take pictures to show you what I mean.
In Glennallen we came upon an IGA and shopped for groceries. There was a chainsaw sculpture out front.
Before going to our campground, we went up the road and stopped at a couple of pull-offs to take pictures of the Matanuska Glacier.
We settled into our campsite. Beth cooked a pork chop and warmed up some canned corn. We split a ready-made salad kit and made an early night of it.
