Road Glide National Rally – 2024
Shark Week XIV
Day 1 – Tuesday
We rode to the southern entrance to Zion National Park, rode the shuttle bus, and hiked the narrows of the canyon.
We saw some wildlife…
and enjoyed the sound of the river.
We marveled at the enormity of the canyon walls.
We walked from shuttle stop 3 to the visitor’s center, a distance of about 1.8 miles. The path followed the river and crossed it 5 times. The last half was in the sun and quite hot. In all we walked 4 miles on the day.
After our return and soothing showers, we chatted with friends and went to dinner at Cracker Barrell, which was walking distance from the hotel.
Day 2 – Wednesday
We rode to the Kolob Canyon section of Zion and hiked a 1-mile trail.
On the way back to the hotel we stopped at the Honda shop to get new Cramp Busters – both of ours wore out on this trip.
We washed the bikes for the first time on the trip and I noticed a couple of loose bolts and missing screws as I was drying my bike. I tightened the ones I could and made a list for a trip to Ace hardware. Later I updated the blog before going to the raffle and dinner. We didn’t win any raffle prizes this year, but since all the money is donated to a local charity in St George – this one providing shelter for victims of domestic abuse – we didn’t mind not winning.
There were two presentations for Shark Week in 2026 – NE Arkansas and Loveland, CO. We voted and the results will be announced at the banquet on Thursday.
Day 3 – Thursday
Today we went to the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site. The site was part of an alfalfa farm. The owner was in the process of leveling a hill of rock when he and the crew accidentally discovered dinosaur footprints. The owner donated the land to the city. A building was put up over the site to create a museum and an active work site for paleontologists.
Ace Hardware was just around the corner from the museum, so we stopped there to get the nuts and bolts I needed. We parked in the shade, so I made the repairs right there in the parking lot.
Bolts in place and secure.
We attended the banquet and enjoyed chatting with many of the friends we’ve made over the years.
The winning location for 2026 is Loveland, CO.
Travel distances (3 days/total): 198/2846
I have had good success with high temperature sealants/ gasket maker on threads. There are not many fasteners on a motorcycle that don’t need thread locker or anti seize.
I put thread locker on one of the bolts. Most of the nuts on the trike are nylock.
Following your rides bring back many wonderful memories for me. I enjoyed traveling on a motorcycle so much. Did it for years. Thanks for sharing, keep moving.
Thanks Ronald. We are staying 5 nights in one spot! So much nicer than packing up every day. We’ll be moving on in a couple of days. I appreciate knowing the blog triggers happy memories.
