On to Escalante
We took our time Friday morning packing up as we didn’t have far to go. We were heading for Escalante, UT, and five nights in a state park campground.
Our route took us through Zion National Park to UT-89 and UT-12. There were plenty of great sights to photograph.
There was a lot of slow traffic in the park and the mile-long tunnel traffic was restricted to one way at time. Beth feathered her clutch to keep moving at a very slow speed. As she exited the tunnel, her clutch was “squishy” and she couldn’t shift. The motor died, but she was able to restart it. A little farther up the road we stopped at this scenic turn out to assess the situation.
Even though the clutch was working OK, she decided to go back to Zion Harley and have the clutch fluid changed.
As long as it was going to be a few hours delay, I decided to have them change my front tire.
I left a sticker on a post at the dealership next to my friend, Tim Marshburn’s sticker.
We got back on the road at 5:30 p.m. There was little traffic through the park at this time, and we cruised along nicely. We made it to our campsite by 5 minutes before sunset.
We have reserved this site at Escalante Petrified Forest State Park for five nights and plan to rest and explore the area. The next blog post may come in a few days or not.
Travel distances (3 days/total): 250/3096
Nice area for explore and rest
Going to Bryce?
Yes, I think we’ll go from here to Bryce, Kanab, and the North Rim. Fabulous scenery here and so easy to take it in on trikes.
