Summer Travels 2024
Soon we will be leaving on our summer motorcycle adventure. Our itinerary includes the Motor Maids convention in Dublin, OH, the memorial gathering for our brother-in-law in Williamsburg, VA, and Shark Week XIV in Saint George, UT.
Beth will be riding her Road Glide trike as before.
We sold the Goldwing trike, so I will be riding my Road Glide that is being converted to a trike. The mechanical portion of the trike conversion is not complete, but the painting of the body is finished and waiting to be mounted.
We started with the body shell from the factory with the gel coat finish.
The shell had to be sanded down. The low spots and flaws had to be filled. Primer was applied and sanded, then another coat of primer was applied.
The first application of the colors were reversed, e.g. the pint and quart cans contained the opposite colors. The bright accent color sure looks good, but the scheme wouldn’t match the rest o the bike.
Finally, the correct color combination, pin striping and clear coats were applied.
Currently the body is sitting in my garage ready to mount.
We’ll be back on the road soon.
Beautiful paint job!
I have to agree.
Hi Ed!! I see he is still at it!! Is Beth’s a Road Glide 3 or a conversion?
It’s a 2015 Ultra Limited Low that I converted to a Road Glide in 2018. Last year it was converted to a trike. (California Side Car)
Love the color.
It’s a subtle red.
I am on my third HD trike and don’t like the rigid axle suspension. Did a few demo rides on the Goldwing trike and the ride was much better than the rigid axle suspension. Did you like the independent suspension on the Goldwing Trike ? As far as I know the HD Trigld is the only rigid axle trike out there. Old technology for my money.
First of all a clarification. Honda does not make a Goldwing trike. all Goldwing trikes have been converted using on of 5 or 6 available kits. Last year’s trip was to Alaska. (Blog is available on this site.) We had three trikes on that trip, a Harley, a Road Glide with a California Side Car conversion, and a Goldwing with a Roadsmith conversion. As you know, the Harley has a solid axel and made for a very rough ride on the bad sections of roads. The other two have independent suspensions and handled the rough areas much better.
I rode Goldwing’s with a Motor Trike and CSC conversion. I thought both Goldwing kits were easier to steer and rode better than the HD Trigld. Some of the other kits are to wide for my taste. You ride a lot miles so your reviews on Trike kits are as good there is out there.
