A Little Bit Crazy
Sunday, we rode from Farmington, NM, to St. George, UT. It was a little bit crazy, but we decided to camp in St. George in 100-degree heat. The bikes worked pretty hard as we climbed to a peak elevation of about 6600 ft and descended to 2600 ft in St. George.
We ran into some construction in NM. They were building new bridges and paving US-64. Signs proudly announced that the works was funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
It was hot most of the day and we broke out our wet vests for the first time on this trip. We soaked them the first time at McDonald’s during our morning coffee break.
We passed through some pretty rugged terrain.
And some beautiful formations.
We had lunch at a beautiful, large park in Page, AZ
As we left Page we rode past Glen Canyon Dam and up to a scenic lookout. As you know, the lake level is pretty low.
The campground we chose in St. George was open and without shade (as are most RV parks in SW Utah), but it had a pool and hot tub and many other amenities. It was 100 degrees when we set up, but it was much more comfortable as the sun went down.
Notice that it is a dry heat.
The interior setup.
Beth fixing taco salad for dinner. The new hose and the suggested technique for opening the valve on the propane tank worked great.
A shower and a swim felt very good at the end of the day.
It cooled off pretty quickly once the sun went down, and by morning it was 62 degrees.
I was too tired to write the blog, but I put a short post on Facebook.
The Next Day
Monday, we went shopping in search of a collapsible water bag. We couldn’t find any at Walmart or a couple of sporting goods stores. Beth finally found a listing for one at Ace Hardware. We made our way to the nearest Ace and purchased one.
A little before noon we packed up the camper and moved to our hotel, where we will stay for four nights. I learned that it is better to close the camper when it is cool outside and not when it is 100 degrees. The inside of the tent was hotter than an oven.
We didn’t do much of anything that afternoon until we checked in at the Shark Week Registration room. Dinner was at the Harley dealer after we lined up the bikes for a group picture.
Tomorrow, we plan to go into Zion National Park.
