Convention Continues
The last post ended on the afternoon of the first day of the convention. That evening we walked to dinner with friends. The hotel and its surroundings are built on what was the site of the 1974 World’s Fair. We walked through a great park.

Dinner was at an Irish pub.

I usually don’t take pictures of food, but the decoration on top of this Guinness was worthy of a shot.

Wednesday morning was the Dot Robinson Road Run.
The event starts at 5 a.m., when riders, dressed in pajamas, line up to draw a number for their starting time. Prizes are awarded to Pajamarama participants. These were a couple of winners.

Beth drew number 44.
The Road Run is a timed ride of about 60 miles. The objective is to average 30 mph. There are 5 check points that are not known to the riders beforehand. Riders need to arrive at each check point on time. Riders start out with 1000 points. One point is deducted from their score for each minute of being late to a check point and two points are deducted for each minute of being early. Riders leave each minute starting at 8:01 a.m. There are two classes of riders. Class B riders have never placed in the top 4 before. Those who do place are then Class A riders. Beth won first place in B Class the first time she competed in Kingston, ON, in 2006, so she’s been a Class A rider ever since.

She has her turn-by-turn instructions taped to her windshield. She had computed and marked the time she should be at each turn.

The starter gives her the countdown and off she goes.

We went to the Harley dealer for a burger dinner. It used to be that the dealers would host these events, but Harley is in such trouble these days that dealers can’t afford to spend their marketing money on large groups. We paid $10 per meal.

There were half-naked men washing bikes for the ladies. Beth said it is only fair, if you’ve ever been to a “bikini” bike wash!

That evening the wind was blowing very hard. The cover on my bike blew off partially. One of the Motor Maids took a picture of it and posted it on the convention FB page. Beth recognized that was my bike, so I went down and secured it to the bike.

Thursday morning started with the group picture in the lobby of the hotel.

Beth was somewhere in the middle of the pack.

The next event was the parade. Riders gathered in the nearby parking lot at 9 a.m. and waited until the parade started at 10 a.m.

The officers led the parade. They were followed by riders from the host district and the district that will host next year’s convention in St. Catharines, ON.

I created a video of the parade and posted it on YouTube. You can view it here.
The banquet was this evening. In addition to dinner, there were many awards given out for years of membership and for the Road Run.

The Dot Robinson Road Run winners were announced. Beth won 1st place in the Class A competition.

The prize she’s holding is a set of tile coasters.
Tomorrow we pack up and move on. There’s still no decision on the repair of my bike.
Congratulations Beth! Class A rider and 1st place this year is a great accomplishment. You were very smart is calculating each timing. Yahoo👏👏 It looks like a great turnout. I’m sure it added to the fun that your best friend shared the experience with you. Enjoy the rest of your trip 👏👏
