Simple Day
This was a pretty uncomplicated day. It was pretty cold when we went to bed and we had a hard time falling asleep. I figured we needed to eat something to warm ourselves from the inside. I made oatmeal in the Jet Boil and getting to sleep after that was pretty easy. It was 40 deg. F when we got out of bed at 5 a.m. The heater didn’t work, so I made coffee and oatmeal in the Jet Boil inside the tent to warm things up.
I put on my rain jacket over my riding jacket and my rain gloves over my riding gloves. We call the rain gloves, “Crab Claws.”

We rode through Spearfish Canyon and stopped for coffee, bacon, and toast at a breakfast restaurant in Spearfish.

We got on I-90 and rode north. Lunch was at a rest area.

We didn’t stop for an afternoon break as we arrived at our campground in Hardin, MT, about 3:30 p.m. There was plenty of time to do a much needed load of laundry.

While Beth finished up the laundry, I took apart the heater and could find nothing wrong with it. I removed a couple of cobwebs, but they were not in a place to interfere. After putting it back together, it worked. I guess it just needed to dry out. We put our chairs in a shady spot and enjoyed a local brew from Spearfish, SD.
