The first order of business after breakfast was to take the group photo of all the Road Glides. This has been a tradition since the first Shark Week. The problem this morning was the rain started about the time we were supposed to line up the bikes.

Most of the bikes were parked in place while we waited for the rain to subside. Patience ran out before the rain ended, so everyone moved to the middle of the lot while the photos were taken.

Beth, Drew, and I waited until late morning then set out on our planned route down US-23, across on US-64, and back up on NC-107. The section of US-23 we rode is known as, “The Moonshiner.” The curves were nice, but the road is in need of repair. There were “Road Work Ahead” signs in place, but we didn’t see any evidence of any work being done.

Before we got to Highlands, NC we stopped at Dry Falls for a picnic and to see the falls.

There are stairs and a paved path to the water fall. It’s easy to walk behind the falls to experience them from a completely different perspective.

We returned to Cherokee via NC-107, an unremarkable, unimpressive road. Our opinion of the road may have been shaped by the fact that we followed a septic tank truck for several miles.

The final event of Shark Week was the dinner. A heavy rain started at precisely the dinner start time. You can see by the flags the strength of the storm.

We had a BBQ buffet after the speeches acknowledging the people worked very hard to make the event a big success.

Tomorrow we head home and Drew will be stopping for the weekend in Williamsburg before going back to Philadelphia on Sunday.
