Shark Week XI Update
Wednesday
We arrived at Battle Born Harley around 11:00 a.m. for a group picture and lunch.
We lined up the bikes (there were about 100-120 Road Glides)…
and stood behind them …
as Ron took pictures from a cherry picker.
The dealer provided hot dogs and chips and a beverage.
In the evening we watched presentations for Shark Week in 2023. A couple made a presentation for Williamsburg, VA and another member offered St. George, UT or Moab, UT.
After the presentations we had the raffle. Vendors donate products or gift certificates. We buy strips of tickets for $20 and put the tickets in bags assigned to each item. This year’s raffle raised $11,000.
Unfortunately we didn’t win anything.
Thursday
We decided to go an a ride led by Leslie, a local who is general manager of The Red Lobster in Reno.
Our first stop was Virginia City, where we spent about an hour exploring the town. We got coffee at The Roasting House, but no sign of Hoss or Little Joe.
We sat outside on the deck and watched the police park additional equipment. We assume they brought in things they needed for the 4 of July.
After coffee, we walked up and down the street. There are plenty of bars and trinket shops.
From Virginia City we rode over to Lake Tahoe…
and had lunch.
We attended the banquet in the evening. Williamsburg, VA, was the winner for Shark Week XIII in 2023.
Honor Hukill won the Janine Hoskins Spirit Award. Janine was an enthusiastic member and friend to everyone. She lost her battle with cancer two years ago. The award was created in her honor and to recognize members who have her spirit and generosity.
After the dinner we went to the tent for more evening conversation and many good-byes.
Friday
This was another moving day. We packed up our stuff, moved out of the Motor Lodge and set up the trailer in the campground.
Early in the afternoon I got a notification that the trailer axle had been delivered to the RV shop. Steve, at the shop, told me to bring the trailer in and they’d install it this afternoon. I got there in about 45 minutes. Another guy, who I think was a co-owner gave me grief about coming in late in the afternoon and expecting to have the work done the same day. After he calmed down, I explained that Steve had told me to bring it in. They proceeded to do the work.
They didn’t have any tires to fit the wheels on the trailer, so I went to the Les Schwab tire store a little way down the road.
Roxy was on-hand to entertain the customers.
With a new axle and fresh rubber, we’ll be back on the road tomorrow.
Nice!! people are having a hard time coping with what’s been going on in the world I have noticed patience is a rare commodity these days.
I’ll bet that trailer tows better with both wheels pointed the same direction.
Seems to be pulling well. I’m still watch air pressure closely.
