The Dragon and Cherohala Skyway
This morning we slept in and had a late breakfast. The sky was overcast, but rain was not in the forecast. We set out for The Dragon about 9 a.m. We stopped at Fontana Dam along the way to take a few pictures and view the lake.
We stopped at Deals Gap Resort to buy a patch and some snacks before starting The Dragon.
There are few places to pull over along the route and you have to concentrate on the ride, so we didn’t take any pictures until the large pull off near the end.
We had lunch in Vonore and made our way to the Cherohala Skyway. We stopped for a break at the H-D Tee Shirt shop. A rider was stooped over his Road King attempting to make a repair to the shifter shaft. I assisted him and got it working well enough for him to make it to the Harley dealer in Marysville, TN.
The Cherohala is a much easier ride and much more scenic than The Dragon. We enjoyed the ride and took time to pull off and view the surrounding mountains.
We had an early dinner back at Paul’s in Cherokee and are relaxing.
Tomorrow we’ll go to Clingmans Dome.
The Skyway is a great ride. Lots to see and you don’t need to be focused on every inch of the road!
Exactly. Today we rode The Rattler. It was much more enjoyable.
