FM-170 To Presidio
First of all, I passed a milestone on my bike – it turned over 90,000 miles.
It was a different kind of day in Big Bend country. This morning was overcast and cool.
The pace today was much more relaxed. We had a leisurely breakfast and the ride didn’t start until 11 am. Here we are leaving the hotel.
The group rode up river to Presidio on FM-170. This road follows the river and has sections that go up and down hill and left and right. Some of the straight sections are fun roller coasters. The scenery changes along the way. There are mountains and canyons and desert flat spots. Any way you turn your head there is something beautiful to see. We also saw some wild life; a young wild pig crossed the road in front of us. We looked for the mother, but didn’t see her; she must have crossed before we encounter her piglet. (“Piglet” implies small – this was not a small piglet.) We stopped along the way for a picture.
Our departure from the overlook was a little hairy;
Our destination was the El Patio restaurant in Presidio.
After lunch we returned to the hotel and sat at the picnic tables swapping stories and consuming adult beverages.
For dinner we went back to the Starlight Theatre.
As we were leafing the restaurant we saw the International Space Station crossing the sky. It was as bright as the planets.
Most are leaving tomorrow. I’m going to the McDonald Observatory in Ft. Davis, TX to take the tour.
