I woke early this morning, but not before the roosters stared crowing. I took a couple of pictures of the sleeping bikes and the map painted on the restaurant wall.

A few of us went up to the gas station/restaurant for their Sunday breakfast buffet, which was good. A large group of us left the hotel about 10:30 and headed into Big Bend National Park. Our first stop was Santa Elena canyon. The river has carved this canyon into some harder rock. It’s about 1500 feet from the river bed to the top of the mesa.

The water level is very low as you can see in this shot.

From the canyon we headed to the eastern end of the park and the crossing to Boquillas, Mexico. We passed through the border control station and walked down to the river, where we took a ferry boat across. They charge $5 round trip.

We had great fun riding burros into town. ($5 round trip.) There are places selling craft items all along the road to the restaurant.

The food at the restaurant was very good. Everyone had a good time. After lunch we displayed the Road Glide flag for a picture. This is the first time it has been in Mexico, as far as we know.

After lunch we rode the burros back to the river and took the boat across the river. We passed through the port of entry where a machine read our passports and we were interviewed remotely by camera and phone.

We rode back to Terlingua, arriving about supper time, had a beer, and dinner at the Starlite Theatre down the road from the hotel.

Tomorrow we are going to ride along the river to Presidio, TX.
