Spring BBQ Run Day 1
Here is something I forgot to mention yesterday. At one of the gas stops the nozzle didn’t turn off automatically and gasoline washed over one side of my bike before I reacted and let go of the handle. John had a bottle of water and poured it over the affected parts of the bike. Lesson learned – pay attention!
We are staying in Eureka Springs, AR at the Inn of the Ozarks, a Best Western motel. The event is named, the Spring BBQ Run. As with all Road Glide meet-ups, the purpose is to get together with friends, ride our motorcycles, and eat good food, whether it’s BBQ or not.
The riding at this year’s BBQ Run is in the Ozarks. Many of the roads are very winding. They are the playground of motorcycle riders, who come from all over the country to experience the thrill of riding in anything but a straight line. 2-1/2 miles is a very short stretch of “Crooked and Steep.” Most such sections are 6 miles or more.
We gathered in the parking lot of Eureka Springs Harley-Davidson at 8:30 am. Since there were so many riders, they broke up into groups of 10 and left at 10 minute intervals. That’s event organizer, Tim Edmonds in the yellow jacket.
The countryside in the northwest corner of Arkansas is beautiful. The bridge was all the excuse we needed for a rest stop.
All of the riders gathered for lunch at The Cave – a restaurant built into a cave. There was a singer there to entertain us.
After lunch we made a bee line for Pig Trail Harley-Davidson. We were stuck in stop-and-go traffic for more than a mile. It turned out that the back up was cause by just one traffic light. Once we made it through the light we quickly arrived at the dealership, where people bought tee-shirts, etc.
This evening a group of us went to an Italian restaurant for dinner. The food was excellent.
Tomorrow is another day of the same – riding and eating and fellowship. Speaking of which, I’m going to go have a beer with the group.
