Riding Around Day 1
Last evening friends from home discovered that we were in Eureka Springs. John and Nancy had been staying at the hotel next to ours for a week. We made arrangements to meet them for breakfast. We got up rather late for us and met them at the restaurant across the street.
The group left the hotel at 9 a.m. for a day of riding through the mountains of southern Missouri. We carved miles and miles of twisties all day. Our first stop was at Beaver Dam Site Park. Because of all the recent rain, they are letting a lot of water out of the lake.
One section of the highway was being milled and re-paved. It was challenging finding a path without loose stones to ride on. We had to stop and wait for one-way traffic to pass.
We stopped for lunch near Branson, MO. The BBQ was pretty good and the company even better.
After lunch we visited another dam and an ice cream shop. This particular park has a fish hatchery below the dam. There were two bus-loads of elementary school students visiting on a field trip.
After our afternoon snack we rode to a ferry and crossed a lake.
By this time it was late afternoon, so we headed back to the hotel and arrived about 6:30 p.m. Rick and I had left-over pizza for dinner and did some laundry. A few more riders arrived this afternoon and will be joining tomorrow’s ride.
Sounds like fun. I’m glad it isn’t raining on y’all.
