Eureka Springs to Jefferson
This morning we said goodbye to Eureka Springs and set out for Jefferson, TX. It was chilly and foggy when we got up, but by the time we left McDonald’s to head south on the Pig Trail, much of the fog had cleared. We stopped at the overlook to take a picture of the valley with patches of fog lingering in a few valleys.
Our morning coffee break was at the Valero station at AR-23 and I-40.
Our next stop was Mount Magazine State Park. Mount Magazine is actually a fairly long mountain ridge. A lodge built along the summit overlooks a valley. We took a few pictures at the lodge before lunch.
We found the picnic area and fixed our usual picnic lunch.
The weather today was ideal for riding. The sun was out and there were only a few puffy clouds. The temperature was cool. It was also a good day for bugs to be out flying, except for the few that ran into our bikes. One large bug left a very colorful mark on my windshield.
From Mount Magazine we drove through a valley on AR-80. The raod was quite a contrast from the mountain roads we had been riding. It was curvy, but flat.
We got to our destination hotel in Jefferson, TX about 5:30 p.m. The pre-dinner was underway in the parking lot.
Dinner was downtown at Auntie Skinner’s Riverboat Club. Beth had chicken fried steak so she could say she has had chicken fried steak in Texas.
Tomorrow we ride to Paris, TX.
AR 7 is a beautiful curvy ride. My sister lives in Hot Springs Village. Let me know if you are back in that area.
..also Mt. Magazine is the highest point in Arkansas.
