Barbecue and Wine
Today was a riding and touring day. We visited Kilgore, TX, had barbecue for lunch, and visited a winery.
The first riding leg was a 45-minute route to Kilgore, TX. We stopped at memorials to local leaders, that are in the form of oil derricks.
The acre of land on which the derricks sit is known as the “World’s Richest Acre.” The land had the greatest concentration of oil wells and produced 2.5 million barrels of oil.
Next we rode to the Country Tavern for barbecue. We had the beef brisket, which was excellent.
Our afternoon ride took us to Kiepersol Winery near Tyler, TX, where we took a tour. It’s a boutique winery that sells about 10,000 cases a year. They also have a bourbon distillery.
After riding back to the hotel and taking a brief rest, we went to dinner at McGarity’s Saloon in downtown Jefferson.
We expect rain tomorrow, so plans are not set.
