Thursday, July 14, 2011 – Gettysburg, PA. Today we continued the Lincoln Highway tour riding through Pittsburgh on original segments of the road and across Pennsylvania on US Route 30. We had 21 bikes and about 25 people make the journey led by Chris Hutter, a friend of ours from Pittsburgh, who has done lots of research on the Lincoln Highway.

We departed from the Red Roof Inn in Robinson Township.

Coming out of Pittsburgh, we stopped along Ardmore Blvd. to see one of the original highway markers still standing.

We made a brief stop at Z&M Harley-Davidson in Greensburg.

The Flight 93 memorial is just a few miles from Route 30, so we took a side trip to see it. It’s still under construction, but there is a small museum in an existing building that was used as an office when the area was mined for coal.

We had lunch along the way.

Route 30 crosses several mountain ridges as it makes it’s way across Pennsylvania. There are plenty of great curvy stretches that motorcyclists love. We ended the trip in Gettysburg, the site of the rally.

The evening activity was a banquet with speeches, awards,  and a raffle.
