Wednesday, July 13, 2011 – Pittsburgh, PA. This morning I was up early and broke camp. I was on the road by 7:00 a.m. The sky was overcast, but dry. Shortly after breakfast it started to rain, so I stopped and donned my rain gear. It rained on and off for a couple of hours.

I got to the North Hills around 1:30, so I went to see the old house and take a picture. One of the neighbors was home, so we chatted for a little while.

From our old house I went around the bend to our old church and chatted with a few friends who were working on the Yard Sale. Then I went to a motel in Robinson Township to join a small contingent of the Shark Week Rally. Our ride leader from here to Gettysburg, is Chris Hutter. He has put together a tour of the Lincoln Highway.

Chris led us to this section of the Lincoln Highway in Glenfield. It’s an origanl section with yellow paving brick.

Chris also took us to see this original bridge in Ben Avon, built in 1896.

We stopped near Heinz Field to see the bridge piling which originally supported the Mansfield Bridge, which carried the Lincoln Highway over the Allegheny River. The piling has been converted to a memorial to Mr. Rogers.

Next Chris took us to Primanti Brothers in the the Strip District.

Our last stop of the evening was the Duquesne Incline.

Tomorrow we follow a later alignment of the Lincoln Highway through Pittsburgh and east on Route 30 to Gettysburg.
