This was my “day off,” a day when I wasn’t scheduled to lead a ride. I joined a group of 8 to do a “medium” loop ride to Cedar Breaks, Bryce Canyon, and Zion. It turned out it wasn’t really a day off as I was asked to sweep the ride.

The hotel has two buildings. We have the rooms facing the parking lot between the two buildings. They have restricted access to the parking to just bikes and named the area, “Shark Alley.” We line up our rides in the Alley.

We cruised up I-15 then turned to the east. We climbed to 10,500 ft. elevation at Cedar Breaks National Monument. I’m guessing the park gets its name from all the cedar trees in the area and the break in the ground.

Next we headed northeast to Bryce Canyon, where we had lunch.

Bryce is a very beautiful park with hundreds of vistas. I took lots of pictures and it’s not easy to pick a couple that are “highlights.” It’s a park you have to see for yourself to absorb the extent of its beauty.

From Bryce we headed down to Zion and went quickly through the park. Zion is another place that you have to experience to fully appreciate. The difference in viewpoints between the two parks is that at Zion you are on the canyon floor looking up, while at Bryce you are on top looking down.

When we got back there were 3 presentations for us to consider for the location of Shark Week IV. representatives from Maine, Calgary, and Texas made their pitches. The results of the vote have not been revealed.

After the meeting a few of us went to dinner at a steak house nearby. The food was good, but the service was slow.

Tomorrow I lead a ride to Cathedral Gorge.
