Shark Week III – Day 3
Today was my day to lead a ride to Cathedral Gorge State Park near Panaca, NV. There were 13 bikes and 17 people on this ride. The gorge is about 100 miles from St. George. We scheduled a stop about half way at Beryl Junction. It turns out there are no gas station there, but one of our riders needed gas. Several of us had spare fuel, so he got a couple of gallons and a lot of razzing.
The park features formations of exposed volcanic ash that have been eroded leaving spires that resemble those at Bryce Canyon, but much smaller.
One semi-circular area resembles a cathedral and gives the park its name.
The erosion has left tall columns rock and spaces that form caves open at the top.
We had lots of fun climbing on the rocks and taking group pictures.
We went to lunch at the Brandin’ Iron in Caliente, NV.
Before dinner we gathered the sharks for a group photo.
Dinner was in the ballroom of the hotel. The winning location for next year was announced. It will be in Maine.
After dinner we had the Chinese auction and raffle for the items that our sponsors donated.
Tomorrow I head home.
