Off to Shark Week V
It’s been a couple of years since I posted in this blog. I’m at it again for my friends who don’t have Facebook and so I can write a few more words.
“Shark Week” in this context is not a series of TV shows about sharks. It’s a meet up of owners of Harley Road Glides. Coming up is the 5th annual meet up. This year it is in Kerrville Texas outside of San Antonio and adjacent to the Texas Hill Country. What is the connection between “Sharks” and Road Glides? The Road Glide has a fixed fairing (it doesn’t move when you turn the handlebars). The firing resembles a the nose of a shark, hence the nick name, “shark nose.” From there a meet up of “sharks” becomes Shark Week.
I left home Friday morning at 6 and headed north and west. Along the way I caught up with my friend, Linda, and her friend, Deb, headed for Texas. We ran into heavy traffic approaching the Mobile tunnel and pulled off to rest our clutch hands.
We headed west on I-10. Linda and Deb had to stop for photos at each state’s welcome sign.
Linda and Deb stopped for the night in Mississippi and I went on the Mandeville, LA. I stayed overnight with Skip and Karen who are members of the Motorcycle Travel Network. The live just a couple of minutes from Lake Pontchartrain. Their original house was damaged by 2 hurricanes so they finally rebuilt “up.”
Skip has also ridden all over the country, so we talked about our travel adventures. Skip was in the Navy and in Viet Nam, so we talked about our Navy days.
