Home Again, Home Again – USA Four Corners Journal Day 29
It was raining when I got on my bike before 7:00 a.m. It rained all the way to Columbus, OH where I took off the rain gear and enjoyed the sunny, warm weather all the way home. I arrived about 2:00 p.m.
It was my final day on I-70. The trucks were out in force. The only thing I could think of to write about was the store at a rest stop that was very nice and not the usual convenience store. Unfortunately I don’t remember the name of it or which exit I took to get to it. Maybe I can figure it out from my gas receipts.
My ride was a great adventure. I enjoyed all of it. I finished it feeling peaceful and contented, not high and excited. I really like my bike. It took me everywhere I wanted it to go. While it would be nice to have a touring model, I haven’t worn this one out so I think I’ll keep it for awhile.
I recommend this ride to anyone who thinks they might like to do it and who has enough experience to ride all day. It’s probably easiest to do it by yourself. Next time I think I’d like to go with my wife and a couple of close friends and see a few different things. I think I might not go so early in June because of the rain in the northeast.
Finally, thank you to those of you who followed my adventure, read all that I had to write, and made a few comments. I appreciated hearing from you.
Tim
Thanks for sharing. Your comments and pics were great. Hopefully within the next two years I can make a similar journey. Again, what a great adventure. And thanks for sharing so I was able to “ride along” with you. Would be interested in possibly seeing all the stats for the trip.
It’s been 13 years. As I recall, I rode 11,000 miles over 29 days. The SuperGlide got about 44 miles tot he gallon average. Thanks for stopping by.
Nice blog and gave me a taste of what I’ll experience. I’ve done many Iron Butt rides (only two documented…just wanted the patches!) I take of on my Four Corners USA tour this June heading from North Carolina to the Keys. I’ll spend a full day resting in Key Largo and will push down to Key West the morning of my start, take the pic, and I’m off! I plan to spend two extra days at Laconia in New Hampshire to catch that rally, an extra day in Montreal, Canada to visit my nephew, catch Going to the Sun Road in Glacier (got my entry pass and hotel reservation all set…..cannot get in without that nowadays!) I’ll spend a day with my daughter in Spokane, WA, and finish the ride in the next 3 1/2 days then chill with some friends in Los Angeles before pushing back home. I figure I’ll average 550 miles per day, but have a couple right around 700 miles. I should finish the timed portion in 18 days, given the extra stops. Leaves me 3 days for emergencies or a desire to relax in a given spot. I’m going to find a way to blog my trip like you did so my non-biking friends can live vicariously through my journey. Thanks for sharing yours!
James
Safe travels. Thanks for checking in.
