Monday, July 11, 2011 – Mt. Pleasant, NJ. Today was a day to ride for fun. I packed up the tent and got a moderately late start. It took me a long time to get to the nearest Burger King in Poughkeepsie. Monday morning traffic was heavy.
After breakfast I went to Orange County Choppers to take a picture and browse the store.
The theme bikes are lined up along the windows.
The Firemen’s bike forms the center of a shire to fire fighters.
While I was there a hot rod cruise pulled in. Apparently they were going to take a tour.
After OCC I went 3-1/2 miles down the road and snapped a picture of Paul Jr. Designs’ shop.
After that it was off to Goshen to meet Drew, who rode up from Philadelphia. It was Florida hot today, so we started the afternoon with lunch in an air conditioned restaurant.
This is not the restaurant – it’s the police station across the street from the restaurant. Apparently Drew is sitting on the County Seat.
Following lunch, Drew led me on a tour of his favorite roads of North Jersey. I didn’t try to keep pace with him, but I did manage to keep up. I dropped the Glide into 3rd gear and followed him up and down, left and right. I did wear some rubber off the edges of the tires. I was too busy hanging on to take any pictures of the country we passed through, but here are the bikes.
We setup our camp and took showers, then headed to town for dinner. We managed to make it there and back without encountering any deer, bear, or wolves.
When we checked in, the camp director warned us that this is bear country and we must keep no food in the tent and tie up whatever we have in a tree. Fortunately we only have some trail mix and it’s locked in a saddlebag.
