Riding from Grand Rapids
I planned to visit my sons in Connecticut and New Jersey following the 2011 Motor Maids Convention in Grand Rapids, MI. Ross was attending a summer music fellowship in Norfolk, CT. Drew was living in New York City and wanted to show me the great roads in northwestern New Jersey.
This morning I awoke way before the alarm, so I got ready, packed the bike, and was on the road at 6:00 a.m. The sun was up and the sky was clear in Grand Rapids. It was a very nice morning for riding.
I headed east across Michigan and crossed into Canada at Port Huron. I went back into the states at Buffalo. The border crossings were uneventful.
I got to Cayuga Lake State Park about 3:30 p.m. It was about 512 miles from the start. There isn’t much about the ride to report. It was just a nice day for sitting in the saddle and chewing up miles.
I decided to camp rather than stay in a hotel.
My 2-person tent and camping gear easily fit in a 55-litre Seal-Bag.
The campground was shaded with a large number of sites. It’s about 1/2 mile from the western shore of Cayuga Lake. The town of Seneca Falls is about 3 miles away. The campground director recommended a restaurant in town, so I headed there for dinner.
Beth is on the road headed home with one of her friends. They were to leave at 8:00 a.m. I’ll add her story when I receive it and get to a Wi-Fi hotspot.
I found a free Wi-Fi hotspot at the library, but Beth hadn’t yet sent an email while I was at the library.
