A One-Day Vacation in British Columbia
First, an addition to last night’s post. This morning I stopped at the overlook of the “new” (1964) bridge that spans the Moyie River Canyon that the campground is in. The bridge is 464 feet above the river. That should give you an idea of how steep the road to the campground is.
My friend, Troy, suggested I take a different route from the one I planned through British Columbia to Prince George. The route took me beside lakes and high mountain streams. There were no straight stretches of road – just curves. At times it felt as if I were floating over the S curves: left-to-right-to-left in one continuous motion.
The mountains were tree-covered, but there were a few snow-capped tall peaks. The streams were so clear they were a transparent green.
Apparently Western Toads live in a hostile work place.
There were many varieties of flowers along the road. Here are pictures of some of them.
I crossed two of the lakes on ferries. The first ferry was large and was navigated by its captain. The second ferry was smaller and, while it had a captain, it was tethered to a cable.
As you can see in the last picture, the clouds are getting darker. Yes, it rained most of the afternoon. My tires hugged the wet roads as easily as when they are dry. I hugged my rain suit for keeping me dry.
I’m in an urban campground in Vernon, BC tonight. The camp and my site are utilitarian and nothing more. No need for a picture of the tent. The Wi-Fi hot spot is near the office, so I’m setup on top of a dryer in the laundry.
For my motorcycle riding friends: I don’t think you’ll find a more enjoyable day of constant twisties.
The motto on the BC license plates is, “Beautiful British Columbia.” It didn’t take any imagination to come up with that label. Thanks, Troy, for suggesting this excursion.
Awesome post, looks like Troy suggested some of the same roads for our ride out of sw6!
I haven’t seen his suggested routes. Could be. I highly recommend this area.
Beautiful. Just beautiful.
.
Yes. And thank you.
Beautiful!
It certainly is. Thanks.
Nice!
