She’s Baaack!
Yes, the bike repair is complete, but more about that later.
We ate an early breakfast, then I fiddled with the email system for this blog. It’s not working completely correctly. After I had enough of troubleshooting, we put on our duds and headed out for another tour.
Our destination was the Moonshine Store in Martinsville, IL. They have a reputation for serving great hamburgers. There used to be a national ride-in of motorcyclists once a year, but they stopped that a few years ago. The store is in a rather remote area. The last 2 miles of road is too narrow to have a dotted line painted down the middle.
The morning was overcast with a high cloud layer. The temperature was in the upper 70s. These are perfect conditions for riding. The high clouds don’t generate rain and they shield us from the direct sunlight.
On our way to the Moonshine Store, we stopped at a Dunkin’ Donuts in Effingham. Their coffee is our favorite and a friend sent us a Dunkin’ gift card yesterday, so we put it to good use. As a side note, my grandfather Snyder’s first church after graduating from McCormick Seminary in Chicago (Presbyterian) was in Effingham. He served there 1925 – 1929.
We continued to our destination following two-lane roads through farm country. The Moonshine Store really is a general store.
They prepare burgers on a grill at the back…
…and customers eat at picnic tables outside.
They can serve customers through a side window. The shelf below the window is a pickup truck tailgate.
We took back roads returning to the hotel. We skirted a line of showers, then the sun came out and it got warm.
We stopped for our afternoon coffee break at McDonald’s.
Just as we got back to the hotel parking lot, Beth got a phone call from the dealership – her bike was ready! We scooted over there to pick it up. The bike was all shined up…
…and Beth was ready to ride it.
We rode over to WalMart to get a couple of things. Beth waited for me in the parking lot. She hadn’t had the bike 15 minutes when a bird pooped all over the top case. Sheesh!
We’ll get on the road tomorrow. Beth will need to break in the motor just as if it were new. We’ll need to change the oil after about 1000 miles, then she’ll be good to go. A big shout out to Dale, Sam, Tim, Robin and the great mechanics at Roadhouse H-D, Mt Vernon, for getting a top end engine rebuild done for us in a week! Great job, and thanks for calling in a few favors. Awesome work, folks!!
So glad you are ready to ride again. Moonshine is a unique place for sure. Happy trails.
SOOOOO glad to hear this!! Safe travels as your adventure is finally back on.
Excellent news! Hope the rest of your travels are uneventful.
As always, I look forward to reading your blogs.
Safe travels as you both return to the road and your travels.
Great News!! Enjoy the days ahead… safe travels.
Great news and thanks for sharing
Tim, so glad that you’re good to go for the rest of your trip. My wife has a saying for times when things go wrong. Upon anything adverse happening, especially on a trip or vacation she will respond with, “Well, this will be a memory”.
Ride on and ride well.
Yes, we have several of these “memories.” They are part of the adventure.
American iron is still the best!
Nothing like a Harley-lonh May they live!
Very nice
Glad the bike is fixed. You’ve certainly done lots of things while waiting for it.
